O God, create in me a new heart
and put your faithful spirit within me.
Do not turn away from me.
Do not take your Holy Spirit from me.

or stand beneath one today,
find comfort and consolation in your abiding presence.
Ease their suffering. Free them from discouragement.
Gentle their anger. Cease their restlessness.
Coax them away from despair.

In the tears of your life, I see a reflection of my own tears.
In the struggles of your life, I see my own tribulations.
In the desolate places of your life, I see my own attempts to regain hope.
In my yearning to find someone who knows what it is like to bear these burdens of mine,
I look into your life and I see your shock, your fear, your emptiness, your confusion, your
desolation.
Yes, I know now that your sorrow is my sorrow.
